A Decade in the making

About 6 years ago I meet online a person that inspired me to take the next step forward and push my labels concept and ideas into the future.  So, I did. And the results of that effort on both our parts created the label known as Point 9 Audio.  Brown and Green. We were but one ocean seperating us for perfection. hense the number “9″.  If we were int he same country it would have been a partnership that was a “10″.

James “Decade” helped the label in so many ways. His inspiration to find new music and sounds and step outside the norm of dnb was the inspiration for this project: DECADE lp.  So, I started to gather artist and sounds that were fitting of what I thought of the personal vision given to me by James.  This lp will be unlike any others one the label. It will be consisit of what one would hear over a decade of living.  the Changes of styles genres and inspirations.  It will be a 10.

Kris Randval – “Energia (It’s My Time)”

It’s almost winter in Estonia and I’m pretty sure there’s plenty of snow on the ground. But just like a nice mug of hot cocoa, an evening by the fire, or… a nice dance, you’ve got to do something to keep warm. Upcoming Estonian producer, Kris Randval, owner of Echowide Music and Point 8 Audio producer, brings forth two very dance-friendly tracks – Energia (It’s My Time), an amalgamation of switch-ups, big drops and groovin’ vibes; and a rhodes-driven, chilled out drum & bass remix.

Energia comes in groovin’ it strong. As the intro builds, the vocal drops in early backed by well-placed bass kicks to bring the drop. Any serious house head is bound to go nuts for this one. A quirky, electro-style bassline rides the backbone while multi-layered “bleepy” melodies come to the front. Another build-up and BOOM! Synth-line followed by switch-up, and another drop into the bassline. Kris does an excellent job in keeping the music interesting. The addition to breakbeats on top of the panned/delayed vocals makes for another excellent breakdown to keep the house heads going.

The drum ‘n bass mix of “Energia” is a smooth rhodes-driven roller. The pianos come rollin’ in deep before transitioning to  the bass drop. The b-line moves swiftly while subtle melody hangs out in the backdrop. The vocal adds sexy ambiance to this already amazing tune.

Kris has many tunes finished and ready for release. Look forward to hearing more greatness from this upcoming producer. In an industry where many are recycling used sounds with no innovation, Kris is one to rise up and beyond. Keep your eyes peeled.

Undersound – A Thousand Memories

Gareth Evans AKA Undersound is a musical prodigy from Cardiff whose musical roots date back to his early years. First picking up a variety of musical instruments, including french horn, trumpet, flute, piano, drums and guitar, It would be his introduction to drum ‘n bass in 2006 that really solidified his goals for the future – he was asked to play guitar and piano on High Contrast’s “Tough Guys Don’t Dance” album.

This skyrocketed Undersound into the drum ‘n bass scene, as he immediately began DJing and producing; also gaining an impressive list of live sets as a resident of the highly-acclaimed Aperture night, as well as hitting many other spots across the UK.

His production talents increased over time, gaining him play on Bassdrive, BBC Radio 1, 1xtra, Origin Fm, Kool Fm, BBC Asian Network, Jungle Train, After Dark Radio, Dark Wax Radio and Kiss Fm. His production talents are seen on such labels as Future Thinking Records, Influenza Media, Luv Disaster Records, Sub Life Recordings, Vibez Recordings, Good Looking Records, Phunkfiction Records, Think Deep Recordings, Director’s Cutz, Vibration Records, Black Reign LTD, Ennex Records and of course, Point 9 Audio.

Undersound’s current EP on Point 9 Audio, “A Thousand Memories,” is a diverse trio of sound. Beginning with the uplifting “Sanctuary,” Phased wobble bass plays the melody while trumpets flutter in the distance. Something about this tune subliminally wants you to be happy. “The Extra Mile” brings on layered, effect-processed vocals that lead in to a huge bassline build-up, eventually turning into a hard-edged dancefloor smasher. Lastly, “Rainbows and Memories features vocalist Oliver Hawksworth on this smooth roller of a tune.Echo-ridden, squelched-out bass lay out the vibe while the drums take control. A smooth, heavenly break paves the way for a destructive drop.
